- Dancing Floor and Shoe Relationships for Swing
- Here is a great site where a dancer from NYC describes different dance surfaces and shoes. He also tells how to "chrome" shoes, which is attaching suede-like leather to your soles so you can slide better on wood floors.

- Shoe Retailers
- The following sites are for buying either specially made "swing dance" or dance shoes. Most shoes cost at least $50, and range up to $120. However, many dancers dance in non-specific shoes, particularly Keds-type, deck shoes, athletic shoes – anything as long as it fits comfortably and isn't too sticky on the bottom, or heavy. Dr. Martens, heels, or "character" shoes are not recommended. Don't buy anything expensive until you've danced a little while and decided how much stickiness you like, and how much cushioning you need. Don't forget the Dr. Scholls insoles – they help!
